Guo Jiaxin was born with Down's syndrome on December 21, 1999. In his early years, Gou experienced difficulty communicating with others, he spoke softly, and he disliked playing with other children due to his limited abilities. All that changed when Gou enrolled in the Shanghai Zhabei Qihui Special School and began participating in Special Olympics Young Athletes activities. The simple activities have had a profound impact of Gou's physical, cognitive and social development. Gou can now count to 6 while simultaneously dribbling a ball. His mother now notices that Gou enjoys interacting with other children, his confidence has improved, and he now speaks louder than ever before. Gou and his family eagerly anticipate his 8th birthday when he can begin to train and compete as a Special Olympics athlete.
