2009 Convoy set for 26 September

World's Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics logo

The World's Largest Truck Convoy is a one-day celebration that helps raise money for Special Olympics. This year's Truck Convoy, a project of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2009. Information about routes and registration forms for 2009 will be added soon, so check back often.

The 2008 World's Largest Truck Convoy was a huge success. Almost 1,700 trucks participated, raising more than US$643,000 for Special Olympics Programs.

How can I participate in the Truck Convoy?

In Wisconsin, the 2006 Truck Convoy was led by law enforcement escorts to the EAA Grounds in Oshkosh for a celebration party recognizing participating truckers for the support they give Special Olympics.

This one-day celebration of the trucking industry helps raise money for Special Olympics. To participate, truckers simply donate a $100 entry fee (general registration info), send a completed registration form to their local Special Olympics Convoy contact, meet at a staging location and then convoy to a predetermined destination, such as a raceway, fairgrounds or truck stop. At that destination they're welcomed by Special Olympics athletes, families, friends, colleagues, law enforcement officers, the Special Olympics community, and the organizations, companies and agencies that make up the trucking industry.

The Truck Convoy is a true collaborative effort..
The Truck Convoy is a true collaborative effort, one which unifies Law Enforcement Officers, Truck Drivers, Special Olympics athletes, staff, families, sponsors and supporters for the purpose of raising funds and awareness for the Special Olympic movement.

A celebration — a picnic, barbeque, awards ceremony, etc. — is held at the destination to recognize participating truckers and the support of the trucking industry.

Inspired by the powerful impact Special Olympics has had on his life through his participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run®, and combined with his family's involvement with the trucking industry, Norm Schneiderhan, a Corporal with the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff's Department, created World's Largest Truck Convoy.
